Tropical Tiki Theme

Who doesn’t love a Luau? Palm trees, grass skirts and fruity cocktails are what this theme is all about. If your B2B dreams of Hawaiian beaches and pineapple everything, then you should find plenty of suggestions here to keep her happy. I would also recommend learning a little about Tiki Culture and its origins. Particularly, the traditions and practices of the islands it’s associated with (like Hawaii) so that you can confidently incorporate it into your weekend while staying culturally sensitive and aware.

Local Activites (Dubai)

Embrace the Tiki Vibes at Trader Vic's

If you have been in Dubai for any length of time at all, you will probably know that Trader Vic’s is the home of a great Tiki themed party. Whether you go for the full Cheeky Tiki brunch experience, or just for cocktails, you will be fully immersed in the tropical holiday experience.

General Activities

Outdoor Adventure Park

Go Ape is probably the best-known provider of aerial adventures in the UK and US, but there are a plethora of other parks all over the world dedicated to letting you live your best adventurer life among the tropical foliage of a forest rooftop. Search terms that will help you narrow down your search for these places will be “Ziplining”, “Climbing”, “White Water Rafting” or “Kayaking”.

Bringing the Fun to You (Dubai)

Tropical inspired makeup/hair masterclass

If you have always looked at images like this one and wondered “How do I do that?” Then I would highly recommend getting a makeup or hair masterclass. Rather than just sitting back and letting the stylists get on with it, the professionals will host a proper workshop where they teach you all how to master a stunning tropical-inspired look without looking like you fell head first into your makeup bag. Check out this list of beauty artists in the area who offer this.

Bringing the Fun to You (General)

Cocktail Masterclass

From Mai Tai’s to Pina Coladas, hiring a master bartender to show you the ropes of a good tropical cocktail is a really fun group activity – with the bonus of drinking! What could be better? Have a look in your local area and if there aren’t any ready-made classes or workshops available to come to you, then you can reach out to local bars or friends in the nightlife community to see if they would be willing to put something together for you.

Staying In

Make your own flower crowns

Speaking of flowers…This makes for a really fun bonding activity, and at the end of it everyone has something they can wear out/ take home! You will need florist wire, florist tape, snips and as many artificial flowers you can get your hands on. Top Tip: contact all local florists who use artificial flowers (Facebook groups are an excellent resource for this) and ask them if they have any random bits and pieces left over that they plan to throw away, that they would be willing to donate to you. Buying the flowers can get very expensive so try your best to get as much as you can for free, even if it’s just foliage to help bulk them out. There are a few different ways to build the crowns, so you can follow along with tutorials like this one or this one. Another Top Tip: organisers make your own before the event so that you have practised the technique, and also because you probably won’t have time to spend doing your own while helping everyone else.

Other Touches

Food & Drink

For seafood and general beachy themed party food, you’ll want to head over to the Mermaid theme. Here, we are zoning in on all things tropical. You know what that means…

Generally, the aesthetic for this theme, aside from the specific elements I am about to list, is bright, warm colours. Lots of green, pink, yellow and orange. No matter what you are buying or making, if you follow this colour scheme you won’t go far wrong.

Set up your own little photo booth with a tropical DIY backdrop like this, this, this or this. You could also set up a DIY pipe backdrop to then hang a load of leis. Make a gorgeous floral hoop or frame, pick up some fun props like these, or these, and get snapping!
